Kato Zenji III
A porcelain panel after Kawanabe Kyosai, with polychrome
enamelled decoration of frogs banqueting, drinking, dancing or
playing the shamisen, the frame enamelled with an inner border
of ruyi heads and an outer border of stylised paulownia.
Signed with two red artist seals and impressed kanji seal for Kato
Zenji to reverse.
Height 24.5cm, width 45.5cm
Meiji period, circa 1895
The seal is of Kato Zenji III of Seto, who was commissioned to make
decorated plaques for the Imura Hikojiro workshop of Yokohama, and was
renowned for his enamelling prowess.
